RICK LATHAM FIRST CELEBRITY DRUMMER iPHONE APP
The past year for Rick Latham has been filled with many firsts and exciting "once in a lifetime" opportunities.
In April of 2010, Rick released the World's first, celebrity drummer signature iPhone App.
''Drumtrainer Rick Latham'' was developed in partnership with Boondoggle Life Labs a leading
tech/software company based in Belgium. The app features patterns from Rick's best selling drum
lexicon "Advanced Funk Studies''. Users are able to hear and see the patterns on the iPhone screen
while being able to scroll each beat in real time to form over 4 million rhythmic combinations.
A selectable metronome function also enables users to choose the tempo while a mute function is available for playing along and
encourages the learning of rhythmic reading.
The Drumtrainer/Rick Latham app is available for download in the Apple App Store.
2010 also marked the 30th Anniversary of Rick's best selling, "Advanced Funk Studies".
Written when Rick was just 25 years of age, and called a ''Bible'' by Drumming Legend Louie Bellson.
This best seller has also been named one of "The Top 25 Drum Books Ever Published" by Modern Drummer Magazine.
Sales figures of this drumming lexicon have topped the charts consistently and continues to set sales records globally.
Latham's second successful book, Contemporary Drumset Techniques also celebrates it's 20th Anniversary.
This book continues as well to inspire and enlighten drummers of all levels with it's contemporary linear content.
All of Rick's books and DVDs or distributed worldwide by Alfred/Warner Bros. Music Publishers.

by Nigel Gan of Drums Resources, the only true Drum Shop in Singapore.
This was incredible. I performed a clinic the first night, then taught private
lessons during the days
and a two hour class at night for the next three days. This was a wonderful

students and I will never forget this first of a kind event in Singapore. My

The first leg of my 25th Anniversary clinic tour kicked of
in May with an incredible first flight from LA to Detroit.
Luckily, I was able to upgrade to First Class and just before
leaving the jetway, the first officer came out of the cockpit and
comes down the isle to ask if I am Rick Latham. While the other
passengers wonder, "what has this guys done", I answer,
"Yes, I'm Rick Latham". The pilot says "Hey Man, I've had your
Advanced Funk Studies book for 25 years and I really love it".
I then proceeded to tell him I was celebrating the 25th Anniversary
of the book and I was on the first leg of my 05 clinic tour, etc. He
was a great guy and we talked drums for a minute before he had
to return to his duties of flying us to Detroit. This was truly a great
feeling that pilot Gene had used my book for all these years. A great
start to a great trip. I was also able to perform with some great bass players
on this trip which always makes it more enjoyable. Other great stops
included, Indianpolis, Hollywood, Cincinnati, San Jose,
Chicago and San Francisco.

I'm working on three new titles that will be available later this year or
early 2006. One is my REAL WORLD PLAY-ALONG SERIES BK/DVD that will include
complete band tracks minus drums. These tracks will feature common, stylistic
grooves that every drummer should be familiar with to play in a live situation.
These will not be virtuoso tracks but rather tracks for the "meat and potatoes"
type drummer. Funk, Pop, Ballads, Bossa, Samba, R&B, Jazz Standards and more
for the beginner to the advanced player. I will also perform the
tracks with several variations and commentary of each.
The second is ALL AMERICAN SNARE DRUM TECHNIQUES. This BK/DVD will
cover some of the finer points of Rudimental drumming and traditional grip.
I'll
perform many classic snare drum solos as well as the rudiments and many
hand exercises and discuss their usage on the drum set.
The third will be PLATINUM PLAY-ALONG DRUM CHARTS. Accurately transcribed
complete drum charts to some of your favorite current and classic tunes
featuring everything
from BLINK 182 to LIMP BIZKIT to GREENDAY to SUM 41, EVERCLEAR, P.O.D,
OHIO PLAYERS, KOOL AND THE GANG, PAPA ROACH and many, many, more!
Watch for upcoming news releases on these exciting new titles.

engineer Larry Goetz, it is truly audiophile quality, even the artwork
and illustration of the packaging (with it's "pop-up" card styling)
deserves special mention. Live and Loaded is certainly all that and
more! For more about this exciting CD along with online sound bites
and all the latest news on Rick's group please visit their website at

Rick's signature drumming style is also highlighted once again on the
new Edgar Winter CD release "Jazzin The Blues", on SPV Records. Rick
is featured in a variety of styles that range from organ trio, (New
Man), to some down home blues, (More Than Enough), to full on horn band
funk (Hunk O'da Funk). Also featuring (bassist) Will Lee and
(guitarists) Hiram Bullock, and Steve Lukather, this CD is sure to
become a favorite of any Edgar Winter or Latham fan.
The Guitar Center will host Rick Latham drum clinics in three mid west
locations this summer. Dates that are set in July include Chicago,
Grand Rapids and Detroit. Rick's clinics will be sponsored by his
equipment endorsement companies which include DW, Pro-Mark, Evans,
Istanbul(Mehmet), Real Feel, Pintech, Sennheiser, Soundcraft and Carl
Fischer. Latham notes "Clinics and masterclasses are very enjoyable
because they give me an opportunity to share some of the techniques and
concepts that I've learned and developed over the years doing sessions,
touring, and teaching, plus , many times, alot of the folks in
attendance have studied from or teach from my books and it's good for
them to see and hear the guy that "wrote that stuff", play it!" Rick's
first book "Advanced Funk Studies", has been named among "The 25
Greatest Drum Books Ever Published" by Modern Drummer Magazine and will
celebrate it's 25th anniversary next year. A Special edition DVD of
Latham's works will be released by Carl Fischer in 2005 to commemorate
this milestone as well as other new material from Rick forthcoming.
Also busy working on his online educational ideas Rick will collaborate
with the Los Angeles based company iVisit to develop new and exciting
avenues in distance learning for music and the performing arts.
Viewers or subscribers will be able to go online and study in real time
video and audio with a number of well known artists in a variety of
fields. Compatible with PC and Mac users alike through special
embedded self extracting players that will not require any special
downloads or software installation. Distance learning will prove to be
invaluable in the future and as a huge fan of the technology now
available, Rick plans on developing this idea to the max. Stay tuned

-----December 9, 2003 -Los Angeles, California
Critically acclaimed drummer Rick Latham closed out 2003 with a
three-week-long journeymanıs tour throughout Europe, which included
clinic/master-class performances and private teaching sessions in France,
The UK, and Holland.
On the tripıs first stop, Latham was a featured performer at this years'
"Journees de la Percussion" at the prestigious Paris Conservatory, which was
sponsored by the French chapter of the PAS (Percussive Arts Society) and
hosted by Frederic Macarez, chapter president and percussion instructor at
the conservatory. The annual four day event welcomed thousands of drum and
percussion enthusiasts from around the world with performances by Latham and
other international percussion greats including marimba virtuoso Keiko Abe,
jazz vibraphonist David Friedman, classical percussionist Tim Adams and the
conservatory percussion ensemble conducted by Macarez, among others.. While
in Paris, Rick also stopped by friend and French drum legend Daniel Pichon's
studio to teach a few private lessons.
After Paris, Latham traveled across the English Channel to London to present
a master-class and teach more private lessons at The Academy of Contemporary
Music in Guildford, where the ACM percussion department is headed up by
drummer Mike Sturgis. This school also offers instruction on bass, guitar,
keyboards, vocals and audio engineering and is a great facility for students
of rock, jazz, fusion and blues. Latham then traveled to Holland for a
clinic in Den Haag at The Music Station, owned by fellow drum buddy and
Golden Earringıs long-time drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk. Latham remarks "It's
really cool to have so many great musician friends around the world and to
be able to make new ones every time I do a gig or master-class somewhere. I
really love what I do."
Latham's master-classes were supported in part by DW drums, Evans drumheads,
Pro-Mark drumsticks, Istanbul (Mehmet) cymbals, Pintech, and Real-Feel. In
2004, the drummer plans to follow the release of his highly acclaimed solo
CD, Rick Latham and The Groove Doctors, with several new projects, including
instructional DVDs, and a new CD.
