Los Angeles, March 12, 2001- Rick maintains his prolific pace as a driving force in music today. Along with his usual touring and recording with Edgar Winter, Rick was able to schedule the time to record several tracks on the new "War" CD, in stores this Spring. Original member, vocalist, keyboardist and co-founder of "War", Lonnie Jordan says of Latham, "there's a certain looseness and earthy feel to Rick's playing that I love." The Edgar Winter Band is finishing two new CD releases, one a hard-rockin mainstream effort and the other, another foray into the Jazz world. Both feature Rick's drumming and continue to showcase his versatility. The Edgar Winter Band will be on tour in Japan, Europe and the U.S. through this year. As well as in countless jingle's and commercial's, Rick's riffs are also featured on the DVD release of the action packed Nicholas Cage film, "Gone in 60 Seconds," and in the movie "Duets," featuring Gwyneth Paltrow.

In addition to his support of others, Latham writes, produces and performs with his own new jazz group...Rick Latham and the Groove Doctors. "L.A.'s Hottest New Contemporary Jazz Group," heralds the Internet's Music Industry News Network - Mi2N.com. The Doctor's are In!  The Groove Doctors have been on MP3.com's Top Ten best selling Jazz CD chart for over 9 months.  This band's lineup reads like a "Who's Who" in today's Jazz scene, featuring Mack Dougherty, guitar (Jaco Pastorius, Gary Burton), Vail Johnson, bass (Kenny G, Eric Marienthal), Bob Luna, keys (Dionne Warwick), Ken Tussing, trombone (Ray Charles, Malo)  and Albert Wing, sax & flute (Diana Ross, George Benson, Frank Zappa).  Latham, who has also performed with B.B. King, Quincy Jones and Bill Watrous, leads this stellar ensemble.  You can check out their music, background and show dates at http://www.groovedoctorsjazz.com.

Rick's highly visible drum book,  "Advanced Funk Studies" celebrates it's 20th year with the release of much welcomed accompanying audio CD's.  Considered the bible of contemporary linear drumming techniques, this book was one of the first drum methods to include companion audio cassette tapes of all the exercises, performed by the author.

An icon of versatility and a pioneer in drumming for over two decades, Latham races into the new millennium with two groundbreaking internet web sites:  LessonsOnDemand.Com offers interactive music instruction for Bass, Brass, Drums, Keyboards, Guitar, Percussion, Voice and Woodwinds, in the form of streaming slideshows and movies.  Artist instructors and lessons are featured monthly, and a monthly CD subscription is also available.  Visit http://www.lessonsondemand.com1on1Music.Com features live real-time lessons with Rick in a 1on1 situation.  You may choose live audio/video streaming, real-time live audio chat, or familiar real-time live keyboard chat-style lessons.  Check out a streaming audio/video sample at http://www.1on1music.com.  Rick has also agreed to clinics for DW drums and Meinl cymbals this year, whew!!

YEAR 2000 BRINGS 20TH ANNIVERSARY FOR LATHAM'S FIRST BOOK

RICK ON-LINE AT MAC WORLD EXPO AND NAMM

Los Angeles, January 1, 2000- Rick Latham's busy schedule continued in whirlwind fashion in 1999 and proceeds on into the new Millennium. In addition to touring with legendary rocker Edgar Winter, Rick was called on to lay down some of his hottest drum tracks on the new Edgar Winter CD, "Winter Blues"(Pyramid Records/Rhino Records/Warner Bros. distribution). This hit album of all new material features Latham's infectious drumming throughout. Winter, very excited about this release was quoted as saying, "I feel this project is some of my finest work to date". This CD features cameo performances by fellow musicians Dr. John, Rick Derringer, Eddie Money, Johnny Winter and the White Trash Horns. The veteran cast of top production recording engineers, including Roy Cicala (John Lennon, Patti Smith) at Studio 56 (formerly Radio Recorders), Dee Robb (Lemonheads, Paul McCartney) at Cherokee Studios, and Larry Goetz (Brian Setzer, War) at Room 222 Studios, were a major contribution to this dynamite production. The CD was mixed by engineer Jess Sutcliffe (Toto, Barbara Streisand) at Westlake Audio.

The Edgar Winter Band was among the featured artists at the prestigious 33rd annual Montreux Jazz Festival (July '99) in Switzerland. They performed to a sold out crowd, along with Rick Derringer, BB King and Johnny Lang. Latham supplied a heavy dose of groove to spark this very exciting night.

In October, Meinl cymbals sponsored Rick on a month long clinic tour of Europe including performances in Budapest, Hungary - Warsaw, Poland - and cities in France, Spain, Austria and Belgium. Capacity crowds attended every clinic. All were enthusiastic to learn more about Rick's sought after techniques, as well as the ever growing innovative sounds of Meinl Cymbals. Rick also performed many clinics in the U.S. last year, including stops in Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, Texas, Idaho and Georgia.

The year 2000 marks the 20th anniversary of Rick's groundbreaking first book...Advanced Funk Studies, which marked a new standard in contemporary drumming. Written while attending North Texas State University, this book has become an essential method for drummers the world over, and is also required study at leading music schools and private teaching studios around the globe. With over 100,000 copies sold to date, Advanced Funk Studies has been given the esteemed title of "one of the 25 greatest drum books ever published," by Modern Drummer Magazine. Look for new instructional material from Rick this year.

While on the subject of education, Rick Latham has launched a new company called IMAGE (Interactive Music and Arts Global Education), and is working with leaders in the communications technology field to bring long distance - real time - interactive learning to classrooms and the Internet, worldwide. Rick will be on-line live at the Mac World Expo in San Francisco, Jan 5-8 and at NAMM 2000 in Los Angeles, Feb 3-6. You'll be hearing and seeing more about this exciting project....stay tuned!

CLINICS WOW ENGLAND AND SCOTLAND

RICK TOURS JAPAN WITH WINTER IN SUMMER

RICK FEATURED ON THE TUBE AND TWO NEW CD RELEASES

WORK TO BEGIN ON NEW EDGAR WINTER CD

MASTER CLASS FEATURED AT PERCUSSION CONVENTION IN NOVEMBER

Los Angeles, July 20, 1998 - Contemporary drumming guru Rick Latham presented a series of clinics throughout England and Scotland in April of this year, sponsored by the Roland Meinl Company. The cities included Glasgow and Dunfermline in Scotland, and Reading, Hull, High Wycombe, Birmingham, Southend on Sea, Wembly, and Manchester, in England. Along with showcasing the new Meinl Custom Cymbal Shop cymbals (which Rick has a hand in developing), capacity crowds were treated to some of his signature grooves and drumming techniques as he interacted with local bass players at each venue. After each clinic presentation, attendees could question Rick and chat informally while sampling some of the local brews. Meinl distributor Chris Sherwin, who arranged the clinics, accompanied Latham on the tour, along with Meinl representative Boris Kosse. These informative and educational clinics will no doubt bolster Meinl's presence in the U.K. Rick's clinics in the U.S. are planned for later this year.

Early July took Rick to Japan with the Edgar Winter Group. The weeklong stint featured shows with Rick Derringer, and The Gap Band. Cities included Tokyo, Kawasaki and a grand finale at Yakota Air Base on the Fourth of July. All shows were to sold out houses with tremendous response. Winter was even quoted as saying, "I've been to Japan several times, but I've never seen audiences respond in such an enthusiastic manner." The Winter group also recently re-cut Edgar's hit Free Ride, which has been featured in TV spots for Burger King and Buick. You can also hear Rick's drumming on the prime time cop show, L.A.P.D.

Rick is also featured on two new CD releases. The first is a live blues recording by Jon Burton and Blues Deluxe -- "Private Stock," recorded in Marina Del Rey, California. The album features foot stompin' original blues and is sparked by an exciting performance by this great band. The second release, somewhat of a departure for Rick, is Welsh composer Gomer Edwin Evans' -- "Soul Finder," from the Rhythms of the World series by Oreade Records in Holland. This CD features Rick performing on various hand drums and ethnic percussion. The opportunity to perform with Evans on these instruments was very interesting for Latham and has prompted the two to discuss a follow-up release. Ask for these fine recordings at your favorite music source.

The next few months will bring more touring, clinics and a featured Master Class at the P.A.S.I.C. convention in November. Rick will soon begin recording tracks for the eagerly awaited NEW Edgar Winter CD, with an early '99 release anticipated. Check it out! Rick's new WEB site - http://www.net.com/~rlatham

Rick was a featured performer at this year's winter NAMM showcase as well as the Frankfurt Music Messe. At NAMM Rick performed for K&K Sound Systems demonstrating their drum trigger pads and drum-to-MIDI interface. His impromptu jams were a treat for the unaware passerby. Latham was also featured at the Frankfurt Music Messe where he was sponsored by Carl Fischer, Inc., the exclusive distributor of Rick's books - "Advanced Funk Studies" and "Contemporary Drumset Techniques." Rick's performances were highlighted by guest artists Christophe Chambet (bass) and Jerry Watts (bass). Rick's demonstration of concepts found in his two books wowed the capacity crowds. Rick could also be seen at the Meinl booth at both NAMM and in Frankfurt, speaking with fellow drummers about the new Meinl Custom Cymbal Shop line. The response to these innovative cymbals is receiving rave reviews from everyone. Rick is extremely pleased since many of the designs are based on his ideas as he continues to work closely with the German cymbal makers.

RECORDING magazine is now featuring Groove Time, Rick's new column on the many aspects of drums and percussion. Recording, sequencing, sampling, looping and just about everything else one can imagine about drumming will be covered in the articles. The column is targeted for the recording musician and will appear on a bi-monthly schedule corresponding with RECORDING's Playback CD. The supplementary CD features ROM, Audio and MIDI files of articles in that month's magazine.
